The future is decentralised

The internet and financial systems of today are centralised, owned by a small collection of entities, you will know them by name. These entities act as gatekeepers and profit from the movement and manipulation of our data and transactions. The internet and financial system of tomorrow will not be like this. They will be decentralised, they will be peer to peer (you to me), they will be owned and controlled by the many, not the few.

The internet of tomorrow will be underpinned by Blockchain technology and, in the words of the UN Development Programme stands to bring “transparency to opaque or corrupt systems, and verifiability and immutability to commercial processes. Further, Blockchain technology can bring “ security and resilience to vulnerable infrastructure, ensure individual privacy whilst guaranteeing autonomy, encourage cooperation and engender trust where they are needed most”.

The internet of tomorrow, called Web 3.0, will see a seamless interaction between information and value. We are now entirely used to the Internet being the repository of our information, Web 3.0 will afford the same revolution to our finances, it will be the platform where the individual takes full custody of their assets and transacts with minimal friction between People, Businesses & Institutions — all of it underpinned by Blockchain technology that is immutable, verifiable and secure.

The internet of tomorrow will pave the way in finding solutions to problems that prevent a vast array of sustainability, humanitarian, and environmental initiatives from fulfilling their potential. It will enable peer to peer transactions, affording billions of currently ‘unbanked’ people unrestrained access to financial markets. In the future a person with a phone and broadband connection can be their own Bank.

The revolution is taking place now, Bitcoin takes the headlines, and rightly so, but there are a whole host of platforms, projects and ideas that are being initiated that will bring seismic change to all our lives — thehodler.net aims to bring these to light in an accessible way, because what use is a revolution unless you are there?
